How to Bet on NWSL

2023 is going to be a big year for the sport of women’s soccer with the Women’s World Cup happening this summer. Many of the stars that will play on the big stage play club soccer in the NWSL.

The NWSL season is slated to begin on March 25 and runs through November with the Championship taking place on Nov. 11. In addition to the regular season, there will also be the Challenge Cup that will be held during the season for the first time starting in April. In previous years, the Challenge Cup was held as a preseason tournament.

No matter what sportsbook you look at, it’s historically been difficult to find women’s sports odds but that is changing as sportsbooks are working to add women’s sports to their books. However, it has been a slow process.

With the popularity of the league rapidly growing and sportsbooks beginning to take notice, it seems likely that NWSL fans will be able to place bets on their favorite teams during the upcoming season.

Women’s soccer is beginning to show up on sportsbooks through international friendlies, so we’re optimistic that NWSL odds will come.

There isn’t a ton of information available yet, because no sportsbook currently has NWSL odds. Here’s a guide for some of the bets that could be available by the time the season begins.

Futures Bets

Futures bets will likely be available for the 2023 season. This type of bet allows you to predict the outcome of the season and choosing who wins the championship. They’re popular bets because they can have large payouts if they are placed far in advance. The closer you get to the end of the season, the smaller the odds will become.

For example, you could see that the Kansas City Current is +300 to win the 2023 NWSL Championship. If you took that bet, you could get a $150 payout on a $50 bet.

Moneyline Bets

Moneyline bets are probably the easiest bets to place. For each game, there should be a moneyline available and all you have to do is pick a winner or in soccer, a tie is a possibility.

For moneyline bets, the best way to make money is to take the underdog, usually betting on the favorite loses money unless combined with other bets in a parlay.

For a match between the North Carolina Courage and San Diego Wave, you could see something like:

San Diego Wave (-200)

North Carolina Courage (+400)

Tie (+300)

In this matchup, the Wave is the favorite so if you placed money on the tie or the Courage, you could get a bigger payout if that happens.

The idea of betting on women’s soccer is a new concept, so there likely won’t be as many options to place bets on but moneyline bets should be the first type available.

Prop Bets

Prop bets are fun because there are usually a variety of different bets available. Soccer books could offer things like total score, correct score, time of goal, or Over/Under goal totals in the game.

For some men’s leagues, sportsbooks offer individual player props as well as anytime goalscorers or anytime assists. An example would be choosing Alex Morgan to have a goal at +300. If you placed a $100 bet, you could get a $300 payout if it happens.

Unfortunately, there likely won’t be player props available but hopefully, they will be available in the seasons to come as betting on women’s sports becomes more popular.

Parlay Bets

A parlay bet allows you to take multiple bets and combine them to get higher payouts if they are successful. For a parlay bet to win, every leg has to win. If one parlay loses, the whole thing is lost.

NWSL games bettors will likely be able to combine moneyline bets like taking the Chicago Red Stars, Portland Thorns, OL Reign, and the Houston Dash all to win that week.

How to Sign Up for a Sportsbook

Signing up for a sportsbook is relatively simple and takes just a few steps. Before signing up for a sportsbook though, it’s important to do your research and find out which sportsbook works best for you.

To create an account, you’ll need an email address to create a username and password. Then you’ll need to input some personal information like your address, date of birth, social security number, and phone number, so that the sportsbook can ensure your identity.

Once you’ve created an account, you’ll be able to deposit funds into your account to begin placing bets.

States That Have Sports Betting

When thinking about starting sports betting, it’s important to know the rules for the state that you reside in as not every state has legalized sports betting yet. There are currently 22 states plus Washington DC that have online sports betting:

  • Oregon
  • Nevada
  • Arizona
  • Colorado
  • Wyoming
  • Kansas
  • Iowa
  • Illinois
  • Indiana
  • Michigan
  • Ohio
